Conference League: Defeat in Athens

Our “Red and Blues” were defeated in Athens by Panathinaikos 2:1 in the opening round of the new Conference League season. PAO took the lead after ten minutes of play after Dessers scored from the “penalty spot”. The goal was preceded by another penalty for the home side, but in the 6th minute Taborda’s shot was saved by Mladen Jurkas.

Borac’s goalkeeper played one of the best matches of his career, saving everything that could be saved. However, in the 70th minute Kangwa managed to double Panathinaikos’ lead, and ten minutes later Miloš Jojić found the net of the “Greens” for the final score at “OAKA”.

“We lacked a little more courage. We had some other situations where we could, certainly, have built and finished attacks better with the final pass in the form of switching sides. Still, even after 2:0 we managed to come back and bring the match into uncertainty. We lacked a little more strength for one additional goal, but all in all, the boys fought. On Thursday we are going for the win against KuPS,” said Vinko Marinović, head of our coaching staff.

The match of the 2nd round of the Conference League, in which our “Red and Blues” host KuPS, will be played on 21 October (Thursday), starting at 21:00.
