UEFA Conference League: Defeat in Helsingborg
Our Red and Blues suffered a defeat against Mjällby in the third round of the UEFA Conference League, with the match at Olympia Stadium in Helsingborg ending 2–0 in favour of the Swedish side.
We created several excellent goalscoring opportunities in the first half but failed to make the most of them.
We were punished for those missed chances in the second half, as Jacob Bergström and Mads Enggård found the back of our net.
“I think we were in control throughout the match, and the first goal we conceded proved to be decisive. We created plenty of chances, played well and practically controlled the entire game. Then, from one particular moment, we conceded a goal that ultimately changed the course of the match. Even after that, we continued to take the initiative and pushed for an equaliser, but we couldn't find a way through. In the end, another situation led to us conceding a second goal. Unfortunately, our performance wasn't rewarded today, because mistakes like these come at a high price,” said Vinko Marinović after the match.
The defeat in Helsingborg was a difficult one for our players to accept, but they remain determined to give everything in the remaining three matches to secure a place in the knockout stages of the UEFA Conference League.
“I'm disappointed that we lost the match. I think we were in control for much of the game. It's a real shame that things turned out this way, but we have to move forward. We still have three matches to play, and I hope we can achieve our goal of reaching the knockout stages. We have tougher opponents ahead of us, but we are Borac. When we play at home, we should be the ones dictating the game. I hope we can make up for these lost points when and where people least expect it,” said Sebastián Herrera after the match.
