European Night in Banja Luka: Borac Defeat Vitebsk
Another European night in Banja Luka brought another victory for our team.
In front of packed stands, our Red and Blues defeated Belarusian side Vitebsk in the first leg of the UEFA Conference League third qualifying round.
The goal that secured the victory was scored by Stefan Savić in the 14th minute. Around fifteen minutes later, the visitors were reduced to ten men after Mohamadi received his second yellow card, but the score remained unchanged.
“We played a good match, but there is still some regret that we did not manage to score at least one more goal. We created some good chances, but the ball simply would not go in. Nevertheless, we have earned an advantage ahead of the second leg and we will give everything we have to secure our place in the next qualifying round,” said Stefan Savić after the match.
Our Red and Blues missed several excellent opportunities in front of the Vitebsk goal, while the crossbar also came to the visitors’ rescue on several occasions.
Vinko Marinović praised his players for everything they showed on the pitch and made it clear that the objective remains unchanged – securing qualification for the next round.
“I would like to praise the entire team for their performance. We played a very good match, but unfortunately we were unable to score a second goal. After going down to ten men, Vitebsk deliberately dropped deeper, but despite their solid defensive setup, we still managed to create several opportunities. It is what it is – we have a one-goal advantage, and now it is up to us to give everything we have to reach the next qualifying round,” said Marinović.
